Intensive Care Unit

Mission Statement: To provide the best possible care through constant, close observation of patients with acute critical/serious conditions, to immediately recognize potentially life-threatening complications, and to promptly institute indicated treatments.

At Union General Hospital, the ICU is a 24-hour, closed unit. To gain access, the intercom system to the right of the entrance must be used, and will be answered as soon as possible, depending on patient care being performed. Please be patient.

The ICU is a multipurpose medical-surgical intensive care and cardiac care unit with 5 beds, which are all monitored. Patients assigned to ICU range from pediatric to geriatric. ICU patients are generally high acuity requiring maximum nursing care and observation. All patients in ICU will have continuous cardiac monitoring during the length of their stay. Each shift has a specially certified (ACLS) RN. An LPN may also work in ICU under the supervision of the RN.
