Public Safety Department

Mission Statement: To provide staff, patients, visitors, and auxiliary personnel with a safe and secure environment and promote wellness throughout our community.

It is the objective of the Public Safety Department to be a source of confidence for staff and others while working, visiting or obtaining medical care at any one of the Union General Health System affiliated facilities. Public Safety is a 24-hour operation with several resources to insure the safety of personnel and to protect property. There are 10 full-time and two part-time officers on staff to provide immediate assistance. Public Safety patrols two hospitals, two nursing homes, and 16 other affiliated facilities within the Union General Health System organization.

Union General Hospital and Chatuge Regional Hospital are licensed by the Georgia Professional Licensing Boards Division Private Detective and Security Agencies under the Secretary of State as an In-House Armed Security Company. Each officer is individually licensed and authorized to carry a firearm after a prescribed certification process.

Our Public Safety Officers go through an extensive background check, psychological evaluation, written exam, fitness assessment and a series of personal interviews prior to employment. On-boarding our officers require an intense period of classroom courses that is coupled with several weeks of field training. Continued education is part of the “continuous improvement” rigor of each officer’s advanced training. Firearm Qualification, Use of Force and Crisis Prevention Intervention are an annual requirement.
